Underhill Investment Strategy is part of Lateef Investment Management, L.P. Underhill manages separate accounts in which we implement long-only investment strategies. Underhill manages individual and institutional accounts, including corporate pension and profit sharing plans, charitable foundations, and academic endowments.

Roland D. Underhill is the Chief Investment Officer and Managing Partner.  He has a total of more than 58 years of investment experience in both bull and bear markets.  He has managed investments for hundreds of portfolios, and researched hundreds of mostly American companies across many industries as potential investments.  All this experience is brought to bear on opportunities amidst the issues of the 21 st Century in a focused collaborative research effort.  Now, with the considerable investment team at Lateef Investment Management L.P., where he was a General Partner from 1994 to 2007, Roland will continue to build on his extensive investment experience.




Chief Investment Officer and Managing Partner

Roland rejoins Lateef Investment Management, L.P. in 2019 after more than 58 years in the investment business in Los Angeles, New York and Marin County, California.  He was a General Partner with Lateef Investment Management L.P. from 1994 to 2007, during which assets rose from $189 million to over $5 billion. After an absence of 13 years, Roland managed investments for clients under his own name, Underhill Investment Management, LLC from 2013 to 2019, and prior to that, under Llenroc Capital, LLC from 2009 to 2013. From 1991 to 1994, Roland was a Principal and Senior Vice-President at Van Kasper Securities, a San Francisco-based brokerage firm, where he did research, brokerage, corporate finance and managed the Los Angeles office. In 1989 and 1990, he was a Principal and co-founder of Wilkinson & Underhill, a small Los Angeles investment management firm. From 1985 to 1989, Roland helped manage Concord Partners, the venture capital arm of Dillon Read & Co. Early in his career, in 1961, Roland entered the securities brokerage industry with Hill Richards & Co., a Los Angeles-based brokerage house until 1964 when he joined Crowell Weedon & Co., another Los Angeles based regional brokerage firm, in a similar capacity. By 1967, Roland was named Head of Research, and in 1969 he was elected a General Partner in the firm, where he remained until he resigned in 1985 to go to Dillon Read & Co. as a Senior Vice President. Roland has made numerous contacts in various industries and companies and on Wall Street and he has analyzed hundreds of companies, met with an enormous number of company managers and personnel, and extensively networked all these contacts. Roland brings this wealth of experience for the benefit of our clients. Roland earned a B.S. in Accounting & Finance from UCLA where he was a 3 year letterman on the UCLA Basketball team under legendary coach John Wooden.
